The Pickwick Flyer

The concept was simple; to recycle a bicycle using as many original parts as was safely and reasonably possible, keeping the price low, but still being attractive. This was my rough concept:

the Pickwick Flyer

This is what I was to start with:

To make this bike really come together I consulted California Powder Coatings and got a very reasonable quote on the work. The was some prep work involved afterwords, but since I have the tools, this was OK with me.

Back from the powder coaters.

I was able to reuse, besides the frame and fork, the wheelset, crankset, bottom bracket and headset. I sourced an old stem from Bike Bakersfield, and the brake levers were a matching set I was fortunate to have lying around. Everything else was new. Unbelievably this project came in at under $200.00 in parts, just what I had hoped for.

Due to the new owners level of experience, I decided that mounting the bars right-side-up would be best for stability, otherwise, I think this one resulted just the way I had hoped.
