Gift for Mom
Early on when I first started to develop a passion for bicycles I found one of the things I loved most was refurbishing and customizing bicycles for those friends and family close to me, especially when it’s my mom.My mom’s bicycle, one of the first I ever spent a fair amount of time on, got a pretty good working over. The frame was polished and waxed, as were the wheels which were very dull with rusty spokes before. Originally this was a sporting bike, complete with drop bars, racing seat and tires (like the example below). Since my mom had pretty much given up her dreams of professional racing, I figured a classic 3-speed bar, vintage Schwinn mattress saddle and nice white wall tires were in order. Obviously a full tune up was performed as well. Needless to say, when she received the bike she couldn’t have been more happy, which made all the miserable hours hand polishing the wheels, stem and crankset worth it.
You will occasionally see my mom riding this bike along side my dad out on the bike path, so make sure you tell them hi.
